We are excited to share that our own James Griffioen represented the FABRIC team at PEARC 2026, where he participated in two sessions.
The first was a Birds of a Feather session on Big Data Network Challenges, co-presented with David Wheeler, Matt Zekauskas, and Vas Vasiliadis. The session brought together researchers and infrastructure providers to discuss the growing challenges of moving and sharing large datasets in the era of AI and big data, including issues related to AI at the edge, federated learning, and distributed data collection. The session also highlighted recent advances in network services across national networks, including Internet2, NSF ACCESS CONECTnet, and NSF FABRIC.
The second was a paper presentation on using AI-coding tools to develop custom SysAdmin tools for HPC environments. James shared how recent advances in AI-assisted coding, specifically using Claude Code, are making it possible for even small HPC centers to quickly develop custom tools tailored to their local environments. The presentation walked through the development of two tools, a Cluster Explorer and a Realtime Chatbot, and shared lessons learned from the experience.
